I’m the Founder of The Ninth Candle, a nonprofit organization that works with schools across the United States to improve Holocaust education.
I’ve written about the Holocaust and antisemitism for USA Today, The Chicago Tribune, The Guardian, and other newspapers, and for journals like Education Week and Chalkbeat.
I also work at The Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy (IMSA) as the Director of Experiential Learning.

I did a BA in music at Magdalen College, University of Oxford, and graduated with first-class honors. I later moved to the U.S. for a master’s in music history at Boston University. I then returned to England to do a PhD at King’s College London. My PhD, which was about the use of Richard Wagner’s music in Nazi propaganda, was supervised by Dr. Michael Fend and Prof. John Deathridge.
I also trained as a concert pianist while studying – with Prof. Niel Immelman from the Royal College of Music in London, and with Konstantinos Papadakis from the New England Conservatory in Boston.
I worked as a College Lecturer and a Director of Studies at Sidney Sussex College, University of Cambridge, and as a classroom teacher at King Edward VI School in Southampton. I later joined WorldStrides, an American education company. This job took me from England back to the U.S. again – this time to New York City. I travelled extensively during my time with WorldStrides, visiting hundreds of high schools in dozens of countries spread across three continents.
My wife and I moved from New York to Chicago in 2020, where I founded The Ninth Candle. Outside of work, I hold a virtual season ticket for my home soccer team, Oxford United, and I’m the proud dad of a baby boy.
